Band 6 Speech & Language Therapist - Adults (Locum)

Hours: Full-time - 37.5 hours/week (1.0 WTE)

We are currently seeking an experienced Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to join the East London NHS Foundation Trust based at East Ham Care Centre, Newham. This is a locum position covering a full-time caseload across two key services: the Adult Speech and Language Therapy Service and the Community Neuro Service.

Role Overview:

This role is essential in helping to reduce rising waiting lists and manage increasing urgent swallowing referrals, many of which include clients with palliative care needs. You will provide specialist assessment, treatment, and ongoing management to adults with acquired communication and/or swallowing difficulties.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Provide SLT input to adults aged 16+ with a variety of conditions such as dementia, neurological conditions, cancer, respiratory issues, and mental health diagnoses.
2. Manage a varied caseload across community settings, including domiciliary visits and inpatient wards.
3. Deliver specialist input across both:
1. The Adult Speech and Language Therapy Service - community-based.
2. The Community Neuro Service - multidisciplinary home and community neurorehab.
4. Contribute to urgent dysphagia referrals, palliative care, and complex communication needs.

Requirements:

1. HCPC registration as a Speech & Language Therapist.
2. Experience with adults with dysphagia and acquired communication disorders.
3. Ability to manage a varied caseload independently.
4. Previous community or neuro rehab experience preferred.
5. Car not essential - must be able to travel locally in Newham.
