Job summary

The Royal London Hospital is seeking a Band 5 Speech and Language Therapist to join its acute SLT team. You will manage a caseload of patients with communication and swallowing disorders across acute inpatient and stroke wards with MDT support and supervision.

You will contribute to teaching and training, participate in clinical pathways across neurology, elderly care, general medicine, respiratory and trauma, and work within a dynamic, supportive environment at a leading teaching hospital.

Qualifications

• Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent.
• Health Professions Council - Licence to Practice.
• Experience with adults with acquired communication / swallowing disorders.
• Experience in multidisciplinary teams (MDT) and working with interpreters.
• Knowledge of assessment tools and interventions for aphasia, cognitive-communication, dysphagia.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of patients with communication and swallowing impairments in acute inpatient and stroke wards.
• Attend multidisciplinary team meetings and ward rounds; deliver teaching/training to other professionals.
• Provide input along clinical pathways in acute settings (neurosciences, elderly care, general medicine, respiratory, trauma, Stroke Medicine).
• Work within the acute SLT team; supervision by Specialist SLT and Clinical Lead SLT.
• Contribute to student placements and participate in governance and audit as required.

Job description

The post-holder will be supported to work through the RCSLT NQP and dysphagia competencies frameworks as required. They will be responsible for managing a caseload of patients with communication and swallowing impairments across acute inpatient and stroke wards with support. There will be opportunities to attend multi-disciplinary team meetings and ward rounds, and to participate in delivery of teaching/training to other professionals., The post holder will be a Speech & Language Therapist for acute inpatient services at the Royal London Hospital. The post holder will be a part of a team providing specialist assessment and treatment to adults in the acute setting with acquired communication and swallowing difficulties. The post holder will be required to provide input along the various clinical pathways in the acute settings including neurosciences, health care of the elderly, general medicine, respiratory, trauma and Stroke Medicine. • Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent
• Health Professions Council - Licence to Practice, Experience of working with adults with acquired communication / swallowing disorders. This can be from placement however, examples of development of core skills in this area must be demonstrated
• Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team, Experience working with clients from multicultural/lingual backgrounds and working with interpreters, Knowledge and demonstration of assessment tools and therapeutic interventions relevant to acquired communication/swallowing disorders in adults including aphasia, cognitive-communication disorder, apraxia, dysarthria, and dysphagia
• Knowledge of national policies, procedures and current research relevant to adult neurology and acute medicine
• Knowledge of cultural and linguistic issues in working with a multi-cultural caseload, Demonstrates good analytical and reflection skills
