Job summary

Protocol Education is seeking a Speech & Language Support Assistant for a specialist SEND school in Gateshead. You will provide targeted communication support and deliver structured interventions, working alongside teachers to embed communication strategies throughout the school day.

The role involves 1:1 and small-group sessions, recording progress, and collaborating with SEND staff to help pupils access learning. DBS checks and safeguarding training are required.

Qualifications

Speech & Language, Education or SEND qualification preferred.
Experience supporting children with communication needs.
Knowledge of SEND.
Experience delivering interventions.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Patient and consistent approach.
Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

Deliver 1:1 and small-group interventions.
Support pupils with speech and language difficulties.
Develop receptive and expressive language skills.
Support vocabulary and comprehension.
Encourage social communication.
Promote positive interaction.
Implement communication strategies in the classroom.
Support pupils to access learning.
Record pupil engagement and progress.
Work closely with teachers and SEND staff.
Adapt activities to individual needs.
