Position Summary

Baptist Health Brookwood Hospital

Position Summary: The Speech Language Pathologist evaluates, diagnoses, and treats speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders in patients of all ages with varying acuity levels.

SHIFT: This position requires working weekdays and one weekend a month, servicing inpatient and acute care.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  1. Evaluates patients, gathering data from the patient, physician, interdisciplinary team meetings (if available), family, significant others, and other data sources.
  2. Develops treatment plans that integrate with the continuum of care, with specific goals and objectives. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care.
  3. Assesses data reflective of the patient’s status and interprets information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to their age-specific needs, providing the necessary care as per departmental policies and procedures.
  4. Demonstrates competency in the use, care, and maintenance of profession-specific equipment, observing safety precautions, and providing verbal explanations of the equipment and its purpose.
  5. Re-evaluates and modifies treatment plans and goals when appropriate, and prepares written documentation as required.
  6. Recognizes and communicates when the patient has received optimal benefit from speech therapy.
  7. Ensures accurate billing.
  8. Adheres to State Practice Act and Standards of Practice.
  9. Maintains regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other standards.
  10. Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

Other Related Functions:

  • Participates in Performance Improvement, program development, student supervision, committees, safety, and infection control as required.
  • Demonstrates awareness of legal issues, patient rights, and compliance with regulatory and accrediting agencies.
  • Attends rehabilitation meetings, in-services, and patient care meetings as required.
  • Practices efficient use and selection of supplies and equipment. Instructs support personnel as necessary.
Qualifications

Education/Training: Master’s degree in speech/language pathology from an approved program.

Licensure/Certification:

  • Certificate of Clinical Competence or active engagement in the Clinical Fellowship Year requirements.
  • Maintains current Speech Language Pathologist license in the State of Alabama (provisional license acceptable).
