Speech and Language Therapy Assistant Practitioner

We have an exciting opportunity to join our dedicated Speech and Language Therapy Team as a Band 4 Assistant Practitioner in our Norfolk community service.

The post holder will work alongside Speech and Language Therapists to support the organisation and facilitation of clinical care for adults with communication and/or swallowing difficulties.

Main duties of the job

To provide assistance in the delivery of Speech and Language Therapy services for adults with acquired communication and swallowing difficulties

. To work under the supervision of qualified Speech and Language Therapists (SLTs), to undertake a variety of clinical and non-clinical duties to support the delivery of the Adult Community SLT Service to patients

To help patients during 1:1 and group treatment sessions by preparing the environment and equipment, designing and preparing therapy materials and carrying out treatment plans as directed by SLT colleagues.

To work closely with SLTs, Multidisciplinary Teams and other professionals, including joint working where appropriate

Qualifications
  • NVQ 3, or equivalent knowledge and experience
  • Foundation degree in Health or Social Care, or equivalent demonstrable knowledge and skills acquired through training and experience.
  • Educated to degree level
Experience
  • Comprehensive experience of working in a healthcare setting
  • Experience working independently with people with physical and/or emotional needs arising from long term health conditions
  • Experience of working as a Therapy or Nursing Assistant/rehab technician
  • Experience working with people with impaired ability to communicate
  • Experience working with SLTs
Skills, Abilities and Knowledge
  • Basic understanding of the role of the SLT
  • Excellent computer skills, able to confidently use Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Ability to keep accurate, up to date records
  • Trained to use SystemOne healthcare records software
  • Knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act (2005)
Communication
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to engage well with people with an impaired ability to communicate
  • Able to respond with compassion, sensitivity and empathy to people with emotional needs arising from complex long term heath conditions

  • Able to work independently and as a part of a team
