An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 3 Speech and Language Therapy assistant to join the team of Speech and Language therapists in Cambridgeshire.

As a Band 3 Speech and Language Therapy Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting qualified Speech and Language Therapists in delivering care to individuals with communication and swallowing difficulties.

This role is ideal for someone passionate about helping others, especially adults with complex needs, and who thrives in a collaborative, community-focused environment.

This role will be covering Huntingdon, Doddington and Wisbech area.

Please note for this role you will be required to travel independently around the county meeting strict time deadlines. You will need to hold a full UK driving licence* and have use of a vehicle. You cannot use public transport for this role as this is not a reliable form of transport and will not allow you to meet service needs. Please confirm in your application that you meet the specified criteria.

Post holder will be responsible for assisting the speech and language therapists in their clinical and administrative work. The post holder will be responsible for carrying out speech and language therapy programmes with adult patients with speech, language and swallowing difficulties under the supervision of a qualified speech and language therapist. The post holder may work on an individual/group basis. The programmes will be carried out at various locations including: community hospital, nursing/residential homes, patient’s homes.

• Make judgement on patients’ response to prescribed treatment/care plans, and report findings to a qualified professional in line with competency framework.
• Overcome barriers to understanding, e.g. patients with hearing or cognitive impairment.
• Communicate with patients/carers by exchanging information, reassurance, tact and empathy.
• Work under guidance on specified tasks, taking direction from registered and non-registered staff as appropriate, with regular clinical support and supervision by a qualified practitioner.
• Demonstrate an awareness and understanding of consent, and gain consent as appropriate following organisational policies.
• Work within the wider disciplinary team and recognise own role within it.
• Promote patient independence and self-management
• Provide and maintain a safe, comfortable and dignified environment for all patients/clients and carers
