Job Title: Speech and Language Therapy Assistant

Are you motivated, enthusiastic, and passionate about working in Speech and Language Therapy? Join The Avalon Centre in Swindon as a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant and play an integral role in people's recovery process.

Working 37.5 hours per week, under the supervision of a qualified Speech and Language Therapist, you will have the opportunity to expand your knowledge in evidence-based practice and guidelines.

Your contributions to service development initiatives and quality improvement projects will be valued, with opportunities for regular supervision.

What you will be doing:

You will evaluate service users' individual speech and language treatment plans, lead 1-1 and group therapy sessions with service users with cognitive and communication impairments, and analyze clinical audit data.

Other responsibilities include:
  • Supporting the work of SLTs by jointly planning and running therapy groups following department guidelines and standards.
  • Completing mealtime observations of swallowing safety for patients with swallowing difficulties and cognitive feeding impairments.
  • Supporting patients with communication and swallowing difficulties during community activities.
  • Preparing personalized materials to support therapeutic interventions.
  • Demonstrating communication strategies to families and carers, including the use of high- and low-tech communication aids.
  • Providing clinical administrative support to SLTs, including data collection and analysis.
To be successful in this role you will:
  • Have experience working in a care or therapy environment.
  • Be able to understand and follow instructions accurately and learn new skills quickly.
  • Possess effective oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Be computer literate, with the ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Understand the importance of maintaining confidentiality and the implications of non-compliance.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work with patients exhibiting challenging behaviors.
  • Have awareness of the impact of complex brain injury on communication, cognition, and swallowing.

Location: Edison Park, Hindle Way, Swindon, SN3 3RT

The Avalon Centre is a purpose-built neurological center for adults over 18 with acquired brain injuries. It is designed to support individuals with challenging and complex needs requiring neurobehavioral rehabilitation.
