Fixed Term (Maternity Cover, 9 months)

Full Time (36 hours)

A four-year-old child walks into a nursery for the first time. The world is loud, unpredictable, and overwhelming. They do not speak yet but they are trying to tell us something. Their eyes search for understanding. Their parents are exhausted, worried and desperate for someone to help them make sense of it all.

Now imagine you are the person who helps that child find their voice. At the Wandsworth Autism Advisory Service (WAAS), you wont just deliver therapy you will change lives. You will walk alongside children and young people with autism and social communication differences, helping them connect with the world around them. You will empower families, guide schools and do it all as part of a passionate, neurodiverse-affirming team.

Speech and Language Therapist PO4

This is more than a maternity cover. It is a chance to grow, learn and make a real difference across two settings:

At WAAS (3 days / week), you will work in a close-knit, multi-disciplinary team teachers, psychologists, OTs, and family workers supporting children in schools and early years settings. You will deliver training, run interventions, and help shape inclusive environments where communication can flourish.

At St Georges NHS Trust (2 days / week), you will contribute to autism assessments and clinical interventions, gaining valuable experience in diagnostic work and family-centred care.

Speech and Language Therapist PO6

This is your opportunity to lead, inspire and shape the future of autism support in Wandsworth.

You will be the go-to expert for schools and early years settings, helping them build environments where children with autism can thrive. You will mentor PO4 therapists and therapy assistants, deliver high-impact training and bring your clinical expertise to complex cases.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • A degree in Speech and Language Therapy and HCPC registration.
Experience
  • A deep understanding of autism and a commitment to neurodiverse-affirming practice.
  • Significant experience in autism assessment and intervention.
  • Leadership and supervision experience.
Additional Criteria
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and intervention planning skills.
  • Confidence in delivering training and influencing practice across settings.
