Speech and Language Therapist -Supporting CYP in Youth Justice

Band 7 SLT- supporting CYP in the Youth Justice system

Due to additional investment we have a fantastic opportunity for a motivated, innovative, experienced therapist to join our growing team.

This new role extends our service support to young people known to the youth justice(YJ) system in Hertfordshire.

working closely with YJ team to provide specialist SLT support empowering colleagues to help CYP reach their full potential

Developing your leadership skills while continuing to grow highly specialist clinical skills.

Supporting CYP across Hertfordshire (base can be agreed for successful candidate).

The Children's Therapies service in Hertfordshire is long established, and we have a reputation for being forward thinking and committed to ongoing service improvement. We embrace change and are driven by the evidence base ensuring we are delivering functional, communication friendly practice using neuro-affirming approaches.

We are jointly commissioned by health and education, allowing us to provide a seamless pathway of care from early years through to school age. Main duties of the job

You will be joining a well-established, supportive team of therapists and assistants.

Your role will include:

To work as an autonomous practitioner, providing highly specialist Speech and Language Therapy screening, assessment, advice for CYP including signposting and onward referral and reports where needed

To ensure that CYP with identified SLCN receive support to understand and manage their condition.

To identify the training needs of the YJ team and provide training and advice as appropriate

To develop and maintain strong communication and collaborative links with relevant stakeholders.

Contribute to the development of the SLT service

Support the development of junior colleagues.

In addition to the basic salary, this post attracts a High Cost Area Supplement of 5% of basic salary subject to a minimum payment of£1,303 and a maximum payment of £2,198 per annum pro rata(pro rata where applicable and dependent on base location)

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

• Recognised Speech & Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent (Post Graduate Diploma or MSc in Speech & Language Therapy)
• Evidence of post qualifying training and/or equivalent experience to maintain and develop highly specialist knowledge in area of specialism
• Registered to practice with Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC)
• Registered member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists, Membership of relevant CEN

Experience and Knowledge

• Substantial clinical experience of the needs of children and young people with SLCN
• Demonstrable experience of producing and delivering training to professionalss
• Experience of working with CYP within SEMH settings or the Youth Justice service
• Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of children's services at both a local and national level
• Extensive experience of working within multidisciplinary teams
• Experience of providing line management and supervision

Skills and abilities

• Advanced oral and written communication at a high standard.
