Speech and Language Therapist - Southport

Location: Southport, Merseyside
Salary: GBP38,000 GBP48,000 per annum (dependent on experience; higher rate for neuro experience)

About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Speech and Language Therapist to join our multidisciplinary team in Southport. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with individuals experiencing complex communication and swallowing disorders, particularly those with neurological conditions. The successful candidate will contribute to high-quality, evidence-based interventions in a supportive and forward-thinking environment.

Main Purpose
To assess, plan, implement and evaluate therapy for patients with communication and/or swallowing disorders, using patient-centred and evidence-based approaches. You will work autonomously within a multidisciplinary setting, leading the development of treatment plans and supporting service innovation.

Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care & Quality
• Manage and coordinate individualised treatment plans for patients with speech, language, communication, and swallowing needs.
• Undertake timely and thorough assessments, prioritising patient needs and developing appropriate interventions.
• Maintain accurate and timely patient records in line with professional and legal requirements.
• Supervise and support junior staff and students, promoting best practice and ongoing learning.
• Work closely with the wider MDT to ensure holistic care and integration of services.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, carers, and external agencies.
Innovation & Leadership
• Lead on the implementation of new therapy techniques and contribute to service development across the local and regional teams.
• Stay up to date with the latest research and therapeutic methods, translating these into effective interventions.
• Share clinical expertise with colleagues and act as a mentor or advisor within your area of speciality (particularly neuro).
Value & Service Development
• Ensure efficient, cost-effective therapy provision that aligns with service budgets and site objectives.
• Contribute to local business growth by promoting the service internally and externally.
• Monitor therapy outcomes and contribute to the collection of KPIs and audit data.

Essential Criteria
• Degree in Speech and Language Therapy
• Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
• Experience working with communication and/or swallowing disorders
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team

Desirable Criteria
• Experience working with neurological conditions (e.g. stroke, Parkinson s, brain injury)
• Membership with the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT)
• Postgraduate dysphagia training or equivalent competencies
• Experience leading clinical innovations or service developments

Additional Information
• Participation in regular clinical supervision and CPD is expected.
• The role may involve occasional travel between sites or community visits.
• The working environment may involve emotionally demanding situations due to the nature of patient needs.
