BACKGROUND TO THE POST
The Speech & Language Therapist is the bridge between a student’s internal world and their external environment. Without specialist communication support, students with ASD or learning disabilities face a significant risk of social exclusion and challenging behaviour stemming from frustration.
The main purpose of the post is to support the delivery and development of high-quality therapy provision for young people with learning disabilities and differences, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and other complex needs, while guiding and mentoring other therapists across WCG. Students at this stage are navigating a dual path: mastering vocational skills while simultaneously developing the self-regulation and social communication required for community inclusion. The SLT within this setting works at the heart of a multidisciplinary team (MDT), collaborating with tutors, job coaches, social workers, parents, and support mentors.
The post holder will report to the Head of School for Supported Learning, Engagement and Schools.

In order to support during busy exam periods, you may be asked to undertake exam invigilator duties. The College will provide training.
