Job overview

We have an exciting new post for a band 5 Speech and Language Therapist to join our team. The Adult Neurodevelopmental Service works with clients with a learning disability and covers South Derbyshire area. This post will include community and day centre visits as well as working from home and from a base.

We are a small, friendly and supportive team of Speech and Language Therapists who keep in regular contact with eachother.As a member of the team you will have access to regular caseload and clinical supervision, plus an annual appraisal that supports you to plan and achieve goals from your own Personal Development Plan. There are opportunities to explore different specialist areas within the LD team and continue your professional development by shadowing others and attending training courses or clinical excellent networks.

Main duties of the job

As a team we work with people with a learning disability over the age of 18 years. We take a person centred approach and our focus is to provide high quality communication and dysphagia assessment and intervention to our clients (and support those closest to them).

You will be working as part of a Multidisciplinary Team alongside Occupational Therapists, Nurses, Physiotherapists, Counsellors, Therapy Assistants, Psychiatrists, carers and family members.

As a band 5 you we will support you to hold your own clinical caseload and work both as a team and independently. Knowledge and skills in learning disabilities is advantageous. You should have willingness to enhance your skills in dysphagia management.

The successful candidate will need to have means of transport to cover the different community localities in South Derbyshire area including Derby City, Amber Valley, Erewash and Swadlincote.

As a clinical employee it will be your responsibility to ensure that your behaviour and values reflect those of the DHCFT trust.

If you have excellent communication skills, a willingness to be flexible and a commitment to delivering high quality person-centred, evidence based care then we would like to hear from you. We welcome applications from those who are newly qualified or from therapists currently working with other client groups who wish to move into this field. We are able to offer further external dysphagia training for those who are not formally trained in this area.

The successful candidate will:

Provide a clinical service to adults with learning disabilities.

To carry out comprehensive communication assessments of clients/ environments using a range of observational and formal tools:

  • In order to provide appropriate and effective intervention
  • To inform others and facilitate a holistic approach
  • To evaluate and measure outcomes.

To provide dysphagia assessment and interventions for adults with learning disabilities.

To provide person centred goal directed interventions (through one to one, group, and Consultancy Model).

To work in collaboration within the team around a client including family, carers and colleagues from a range of professions and agencies health, education, social services and the voluntary sector.

Attainments and qualifications
  • Recognised SLT qualification
  • HCPC registration

Experience
  • Experience of working with people with speech, language and communication needs
