Job summary

The East SILC is seeking a qualified Speech and Language Therapist to join a dynamic, school-based team across multiple sites in Leeds. This maternity cover role begins September 2026 and focuses on learners aged 3-19 with a wide range of communication needs.

You'll work alongside teachers, families and external professionals to deliver assessment, intervention and advice, promoting inclusive learning and meaningful communication throughout the school day.

Qualifications

  • A qualified Speech and Language Therapist with HCPC registration.
  • Experience of working with children and young people with SEND.
  • A reflective, flexible practitioner who enjoys working as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Commitment to learner‑centred, inclusive practice.

Responsibilities

  • Providing assessment and intervention for learners with speech, language, and communication needs.
  • Working collaboratively with teaching staff to embed communication strategies into the curriculum.
  • Contributing to targets, annual reviews, reports and multidisciplinary planning.
  • Providing training, guidance, and resources to school staff.
  • Supporting the development of total communication approaches across the school.

The East SILC is a complex organisation which operates on a variety of sites to provide a range of outreach services across the city, including partnerships with primary and secondary providers, the city‑wide Physical Difficulties and Medical Service including a moving and handling service, as well as the Medical Needs Teaching Service for Leeds.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Providing assessment and intervention for learners with a wide range of speech, language, and communication needs, including autism, learning disability, and complex needs.
  • Working collaboratively with teaching staff to embed communication strategies into the curriculum.
  • Contributing to classroom practice, EHCP targets, annual reviews, reports, and multidisciplinary planning.
  • Providing training, guidance, and resources to school staff.
  • Supporting the development of total communication approaches across the school.
