We are seeking a dynamic, empathetic, and skilledSpeech & Language Therapistto join our multidisciplinary therapy team. We welcome applications from both newly qualified and experienced Speech and Language Therapists. The salary is Grade 6 for newly qualified candidates but up to Grade 8 can be considered depending on previous experience and level of qualifications.

The postholder will work under the guidance of our Principal SaLT and the wider SaLT Team to assess, plan, and deliver evidence-based, autism-specific interventions for our pupils. You will collaborate closely with teaching staff, families, and professionals to create personalised learning and communication plans that support every child’s educational journey.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree qualification.
  • HCPC registration and commitment to CPD (in line with RCSLT guidance).
  • Experience working with autistic children and young people, ideally within a school setting.
  • Strong knowledge of autism-specific communication strategies and interventions.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organisational and communication skills.
  • A passion for inclusive education and a child-centred approach.

Qualifications:

  • Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent
  • Postgraduate diploma/masters level expertise in the specialist field of autism or education.
  • Professional knowledge acquired through further training and specialist short courses.
  • HCPC Licence to Practice
  • Member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapy
  • Show active interest in CPD in line with RCSLT guidelines
  • Self-motivated and remain updated with professional practice
  • An interest in current autism research and practice

Experience:

  • Experience of working with children and young people with Autism and related diagnoses e.g., PDA, ADHD, at undergraduate/post graduate level
  • Experience of working within a school environment
  • Working collaboratively with parents/carers and other professionals
  • Experience of working in a multi-agency and/or multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of assessing the needs of children and young people with complex communication needs including those who do not yet use speech to communicate
  • Experience of working with pupils presenting with extreme dysregulation
  • Experience of supporting pupils using a range of AAC systems

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of UK legislation and policies relevant to SEND, Autism and Education
  • Knowledge of assessment tools, treatment techniques and therapeutic interventions
  • Knowledge and experience of using a range of Autism specific approaches, e.g. PECS, TEACCH, Attention Autism, and the SCERTS framework.
  • Knowledge of a Total Communication Approach and use of a range of AAC systems
  • Awareness of the roles of other professionals relevant to SEND, Autism and education.
  • Awareness of standards of record keeping
  • Awareness of the principles of clinical governance/audit
  • Awareness of vulnerable adults, children and young people’s safeguarding issues and legislation.
