This is a permanent, part time position of 22 hours.

The shift pattern for this position is 8.30 4.30.

(Please note the salary is Pro Rata) for part time hours.

Role

The Forensic Mental Health Speech & Language Therapy service exists to deliver high quality care to patients and their carers. The Forensic Directorate is comprised of medium secure unit, low secure unit and forensic community mental health and learning disabilities team. Those working for the Forensic Directorate can work within any of these areas at any time. The role of the Forensic Speech & Language Therapists (SLT) are:

• To assess, diagnose and treat a complex caseload independently within one or more specialist clinical areas, e.g Mental Health, Learning Disabilities; forensics, addictions.
• To work within uni-professional and multi-professional teams to ensure coordinated effective care and communication for patients and carers
• To provide clinical support to junior SLT staff, and supervise clinical and administrative support staff, students and volunteers
• To contribute to audit activity, service development or action-based research to improve local clinical practice
• To contribute to team risk assessments and provide an SLT perspective into patient risk assessment and risk management.
  
  

A good knowledge of risk assessment and risk management and an understanding of mental health conditions and working in a forensic environment is required. It is highly suggested that interested applicants visit or have a conversation with the informal contact or the Speech & Language Therapist in post. This post is split between 2 sites and will require travelling between sites.
