Job summary

Orbis Education and Care is seeking a Specialist Speech & Language Therapist to join our therapy team in Swansea. This term-time-only role offers a pro rata salary aligned to a full-time FTE range and involves assessments, intervention planning, and cross-professional collaboration to support children with diverse communication needs.

You will deliver evidence-based interventions, contribute to EHCP/IDP reviews, and provide staff training within our specialist education settings.

Qualifications

• Degree or Diploma in Speech & Language Therapy.
• HCPC registration is current and active.
• Experience supporting autistic children and young people with complex needs.
• Knowledge of SEND frameworks and person-centred practice.
• Experience delivering training, mentoring or workforce development initiatives.
• Understanding of AAC, PECS, Makaton and Dysphagia; willingness to undertake further specialist training.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organisational and case management abilities.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive speech, language and communication assessments for children and young people with complex needs.
• Design and deliver tailored intervention programmes for individual pupils and groups.
• Support learners with communication and interaction difficulties, AAC, and eating and drinking challenges where appropriate.
• Work closely with education, care and therapeutic professionals to embed communication strategies.
• Provide expert advice, guidance and coaching to colleagues to enhance communication outcomes.
• Deliver training sessions for staff, families and carers to promote consistency in approaches.
• Help create and maintain communication-friendly learning environments.
• Contribute to EHCP/IDP reviews and multidisciplinary planning meetings.
• Champion best practice and evidence-based approaches to communication support.

About You

We're looking for a dedicated Speech & Language Therapist who is passionate about improving outcomes for children and young people with additional needs.

Essential Criteria

• Degree or Diploma in Speech & Language Therapy.
• Current HCPC registration.
• Relevant post‑qualification experience supporting autistic children and young people with complex needs.
• Strong knowledge of SEND frameworks and person‑centred practice.
• Experience delivering training, mentoring, coaching or workforce development initiatives.
• Understanding of AAC, PECS, Makaton and Dysphagia, or a willingness to undertake further specialist training.
