Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting a Speech and Language Therapist to join our evolving SLT Service. The role focuses on reducing waiting times and ensuring timely, effective support for children and families.

As part of a forward-looking team, you will contribute to developing services that improve outcomes for children and young people, with a commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, and collaboration across education and health settings.

Qualifications

• Holds a recognised Speech and Language Therapy qualification and is registered with the HCPC.
• Must have completed NQT competencies.

Responsibilities

• Assess and evaluate children referred to Speech and Language Therapy, and their communication context.
• Develop appropriate communication targets and interventions for children with speech and language needs.
• Mentor parents, teaching staff and other carers in skill building communication and the development of nurturing language learning environments.
• Provide information and advice regarding management and care of children with communication difficulties.
• Evaluate therapy outcomes.

Main duties of the job

Reporting into the Team Leader, some of your responsibilities will include:

To assess and evaluate children referred to Speech and Language Therapy, and their communication context.

Person Specification

Qualifications

• Registered member of Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists and Health Professions Council


• Must have completed NQT competencies

Experience

• Experience of working with children with speech, language and communication difficulties. This includes pre-qualification experience and also experienced gained whilst on student placement.


• Experience of working with relatives and carers.


• Experience working as a qualified Speech and Language Therapist with children with communication difficulties.


• Experience of providing advice on client management to other health professionals, carers and non-specialist health colleagues.


• Experience working in educational settings.

Knowledge and Skills

• Knowledge of a broad range of assessment tools and therapeutic interventions appropriate for including those with complex needs.


• Knowledge of Education Health Care Plans and SEN processes.


• Knowledge of professional and clinical guidelines relevant to the client group.


• Excellent analytical, negotiation and problem-solving skills.


• Knowledge of the principles of clinical governance, audit and required standards of record keeping.


• Understanding of the roles of other professionals (relevant to the client group).
