Job description

This post mainly involves delivery of speech and language therapy services within schools on the Fylde Coast, supporting children with SLCN and Special Educational Needs.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work within our supportive team of SLTs and SLT Assistants and the multi-disciplinary team within schools.

The focus will be in supporting universal best practice within the setting and providing services directly and through others, to support the children and young people to reach their full potential.

The successful candidate may also choose to develop their skills in undertaking Autism diagnostic assessments to inform multi-disciplinary panel decisions.

Job responsibilities

Core responsibilities.

To provide a speech and languagetherapy services to children, directly and through support to their familiesand the multi-disciplinary team.

Provide speech, language andcommunication assessments for pupils in consultation with the multi-disciplinary team and other SLTs and SLTAs.

Keep accurate records and providewritten reports.

Produce comprehensive reports whichcan be used to fulfil a range of functions, including EHCP applications, progressreviews, and diagnostic evaluations.

Set targets for therapy and monitorprogress.

Provide intervention on an individualor group basis as required.

Develop and demonstrate SLT programmesand groups for pupils.

Hold responsibility for own caseload,working without direct supervision.

Work as a member of themulti-disciplinary team, contributing to the planning, development and deliveryof an effective and efficient service.

To liaise with other involved agenciesand with families to provide an integrated service.

Work as a keymember of the team which involves participation in:

  • Clinical supervision within the teamvia regular meetings, supervision, mentoring and appraisals.
  • Continuing professional developmentand implementing service improvements and evidence-based practice.
  • Induction, supervision and support ofjunior SLTs, SLTAs and volunteers.
  • Development of SLT services andtraining.
  • The evaluation and monitoring ofservices to demonstrate impact and quality of service.
Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) Degree or Masters.
  • Registration with RCSLT and HCPC.
  • Completed Newly Qualified Practitioner (NQP) Framework (This is not essential as successful candidates can join our NQP preceptorship programme).
  • Training relevant to role, e.g. Elklan, Hanen, ADOS etc.
Experience
  • Experience working within schools and as part of a Multi-agency team.
  • Experience of standardised assessments and interventions.
  • 3 or more years experience working as an SLT with children with special educational needs.
  • Knowledge of Autism and diagnostic criteria.
