Job description

We are seeking a motivated, Band 6 Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join our community Learning Disability Healthcare Team. As a friendly and dynamic team, we provide specialist services for adults with learning disabilities across Wandsworth.

The role includes:

  1. Carrying out specialist assessments and interventions for individuals with communication and swallowing needs in various community settings, such as clients' homes, supported living facilities, registered care homes, and community day services.
  2. Managing a general caseload of adults with complex needs within a multidisciplinary and multi-agency team, including clients with English as an additional language.
  3. Providing highly specialist assessment, diagnosis, and intervention for developmental speech, language, communication difficulties, and dysphagia.
  4. Delivering therapy interventions in residential, community, day service, and educational settings, ensuring therapy is embedded in daily routines.
  5. Working as part of the SLT team to liaise with internal and external agencies, providing timely, targeted, and individualized management, treatment, and advice, involving families, carers, and professionals, and offering training and recommendations.
  6. Participating in team development and service improvement initiatives, ensuring systems and processes are efficient and effective.
  7. Engaging in continuing professional development, supervising students and assistants, and providing observation opportunities.

The ideal candidate should be a confident practitioner with flexibility to meet service demands and be dysphagia competent (training towards competencies will be considered). Experience working with adults with complex behaviors, utilizing Positive Behavioral Support and/or mental health needs, is desirable. Applicants should be forward-thinking, able to work independently, and enjoy challenges within a large team.
