Speech and Language Therapist

We require a 0.9WTE SLT with post graduate experience in adult neurosciences to work on the stroke in-patient ward and Neuro-Rehabilitation Unit at NHNN to cover maternity leave for 11 months from mid January 2026.

The predominant caseload will be stroke and patients will have a range of acute, chronic and progressive speech, language and swallowing disorders.

You will join a team of SLTs which has a well-established system for formal / informal support and clinical / professional supervision. The SLT service has a very high profile within the multidisciplinary range of services provided.

The post offers exceptional opportunities to use adult neuro clinical skills and contribute to the research and teaching programmes within this highly specialised patient population.

Main duties of the job

The SLT post manages and prioritises a defined SLT caseload within NHNN in stroke and NRU. They will be supported by band 6 and 7 speech and language therapists and work together with the rest of the Stroke and NRU MDT. The SLT works closely with multi-disciplinary colleagues across UCLH Trust. As such, the posts require people who demonstrate evidence-based practice within adult neurology and stroke rehabilitation, sound clinical reasoning and decision-making in assessing and treating communication and swallowing disorders due to stroke and other acquired and progressive neurological conditions, excellent communication and teaching skills, and effective team-working abilities.

Knowledge and Qualifications
  • Degree/diploma in Speech and Language Therapy
  • Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration (actual or pending)
  • Member of the Royal College of Speech-Language Therapists
Experience
  • Experience of assessing and treating people with communication disorders, in particular aphasia
  • Use of electronic medical records
  • Awareness of and involvement in clinical governance programmes
  • Evidence of self-directed learning
  • Experience of selecting, negotiating, and evaluating treatment goals
  • Experience or training in assessment and treatment of people with aphasia at an impairment, activity and participation level.
