Job description

As a key member of both the Community Learning Disability Team and Eastway Assessment and Treatment inpatient team, you will develop person-centred plans and work closely with service users and other members of the teams. You will have opportunities to develop your skills across a range of clinical areas including AAC, Total Communication, Higher level language difficulties, and dysphagia.

This role is for a qualified Speech and Language Therapist working as part of a multidisciplinary team with adults with learning disabilities. You will provide evidence-based speech and language therapy assessments, treatments, and interventions to service users with learning disabilities and communication and/or eating and drinking difficulties (dysphagia training will be provided as needed). The post holder will apply their core speech and language therapy skills to the learning disability field. The caseload will include supporting people with a wide range of communication difficulties.

You will benefit from working alongside a wide range of professionals, including other Speech and Language Therapists.

This post is suitable for a Speech and Language Therapist eager to extend their experience within the learning disability field and work across inpatient and community bases. A passion for working with people with learning disabilities is essential.

Minimum Requirements
  1. Degree level qualification or equivalent in Speech & Language Therapy
  2. HCPC Registered
  3. Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
  4. Evidence of successful completion of postgraduate courses/training in challenging behaviour change to behaviours of concern (Band 6)
Desirable Criteria
  1. Attendance at management/leadership short courses
  2. Dysphagia qualification (Band 6)
  3. Established knowledge of relevant national policies and procedures
  4. Ability to manage own caseload of complex problems independently (Band 6)
  5. Detailed knowledge of current evidence in managing communication difficulties in adults with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour (Band 6)
  6. Knowledge and experience of clinical governance and audit (Band 6)
  7. Significant post-qualification experience (Band 6)
  8. Experience working on assessment treatment units (Band 6)
  9. Experience providing communication assessments and interventions for people with behaviours of concern (Band 6)
  10. Experience working with complex cases alongside or with supervision from a specialist therapist (Band 6)
  11. Experience working independently (Band 6)
  12. Experience collaborating with other professionals (Band 6)
  13. Assessment and implementation of AAC systems (Band 6)
  14. Interest in continuing professional development (Band 6)
  15. Experience delivering training to others (Band 6)

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
