The closing date is 19 October 2025

We have an exciting and rare opportunity for a Band 6 Generalist Adult Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) to join our team at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBT).

As a Generalist SLT, you will provide compassionate clinical care alongside adults living with communication and/or swallowing differences across all our pathways which include: stroke, non-stroke, community, voice and head/neck cancer. As such, you will have existing eating, drinking and swallowing competencies and experience to at least Foundation Level (RCSLT, 2025)/Level C (2014).

You will join us at an exciting time as we are currently reviewing our models of service delivery, which has recently involved a movement to integrating telehealth/clinic approaches, and streamlining of pathways to ensure the provision of safe and sustainable care to all our communities across Morecambe Bay. Our service is supported by an overarching Clinical and Professional Lead and is embedded within the Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care System which enables involvement in a range of regional service and workforce initiatives.

Main duties of the job

Whilst UHMBT operates from 3 main hospital sites in Lancaster, Barrow-in-Furness and Kendal, the geographical area that it covers spans from North Lancashire to South Cumbria. Therefore, the ability to travel independently between sites is an essential, non-negotiable element of this role. The work base location will be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate. There is an expectation that we progress to 6 day working for our stroke pathway once full established.

If you are a motivated, flexible and forward-thinking SLT wanting to practise across a range of clinical pathways, we would love to hear from you.

As part of review of service model, all SLT job descriptions will be reviewed. Therefore, the attached job descriptions and person specifications will be subject to review.

About us

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
