A well-established and rapidly growing food manufacturer, with a strong reputation for producing high-quality meat-based products for major UK supermarkets, foodservice providers, and meal kit companies, is looking to appoint an experiencedSpecification Technologist.

This business has been operating for over two decades and has built a strong track record in delivering premium beef, lamb, pork, and venison products. As they continue to expand, they are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented professional to join the technical team.

The Role

The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining and updating product data and ensuring specifications meet internal, customer, regulatory, and third-party requirements. You’ll be responsible for managing specification systems across multiple platforms and supporting cross-functional teams throughout the product development and launch process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete and maintain accurate product and customer specifications via various online technical systems.
  • Work with major UK retailer platforms, ensuring specifications meet customer expectations and compliance standards.
  • Support new product development (NPD) processes, including reviewing artwork and managing timelines for launches.
  • Handle specifications for complex, multi-component products including proteins, sauces, and meal solutions.
  • Liaise with commercial, buying, and supplier teams to ensure timely and accurate specification data.
  • Maintain internal documentation, technical trackers, and controlled libraries for customer requirements.
  • Review and approve packaging and labelling to ensure legal and customer compliance.
  • Create and verify pack copy for private label product launches.
  • Support internal audits, assist during third-party audits, and contribute to quality system improvements.
  • Provide technical support regarding food legislation and retailer codes of practice.
  • Assist in managing export product requirements and ensure all necessary documentation is in place.
  • Contribute to maintaining a strong food safety culture across the site.

Key Requirements

  • Experience working in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with UK retailer specification systems and technical portals.
  • Strong understanding of food labelling legislation and artwork review processes.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Proficient IT skills with experience using technical databases and Microsoft Office.
  • Food Safety Level 3, HACCP Level 3, and Internal Auditing qualifications (preferred).
