Specification Technologist

As a Specification Technologist, you'll play a key role within a fast-paced and quality-focused business that has seen significant growth in recent years. You'll be instrumental in ensuring product compliance, managing technical documentation, and working collaboratively with both internal teams and major retail customers. You will be responsible for, but not limited to:

1. Specification Management: Writing, updating and maintaining specifications for major UK retailers, ensuring full compliance with legal and customer requirements.


2. Label & Pack Copy Review: Checking and approving artwork, label copy and nutritional information to ensure accuracy and alignment with specifications.


3. Compliance & Legislation: Staying abreast of relevant food legislation, ensuring all products meet required standards and technical policies.


4. Retailer Systems: Managing specifications through retailer portals, ensuring all information is uploaded accurately and in a timely manner.


5. Product Launch Support: Working closely with NPD, technical and production teams to support new product launches and critical path timelines.


6. Customer Interaction: Acting as the point of contact for customer technical queries relating to specifications and compliance.


7. Documentation & Audits: Maintaining robust records and technical documentation, supporting audit readiness at all times.

What's required?

1. Proven experience in a specification or technical role within a food manufacturing environment.


2. Strong working knowledge of retailer specification systems (e.g., Tesco, M&S, Sainsbury's, etc.).


3. A good understanding of UK and EU food labelling legislation.


4. High attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.


5. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.


6. A proactive, collaborative attitude and strong communication skills.
