Job summary

Synergy Flavors, part of the Carbery Group, is seeking a Specifications Technologist in the UK to ensure packaging, labels and documentation are compliant with UK/EU legislation and export standards. You will manage product specs and safety data sheets, and provide technical information to customers through internal and client templates.

You will review ingredients, allergens and nutrition, support organic, Halal, Kosher and Fair Trade certifications, and collaborate with suppliers.

Qualifications

• Degree in Food Science or related subject.

Responsibilities

• Ensure products, packaging, labels and docs meet UK/EU and export requirements.
• Prepare and maintain product specifications and Safety Data Sheets.
• Provide technical information to customers through systems and templates.
• Support third-party certifications (Organic/Halal/Kosher/Fair Trade).
• Review regulatory information including ingredients, allergens, nutrition and composition.
• Work with suppliers to obtain technical and regulatory information.
• Maintain regulatory/specification data and accessibility.
• Assist Regulatory Manager with new product development and launches.

Your Role in Synergy’s Success

• To ensure that all products, packaging, labels and supporting documentation are accurate and compliant with current UK and EU legislation, legal requirements in the export markets served, and all customer standards.
• Provide timely and accurate Specifications and Safety Data Sheets as part of the Synergy NPI process
• Coordinate and provide timely and accurate technical information to customers both in Synergy and other customer-specified templates (including online systems e.g. Qadex/Hamilton Grant).
• Support the compliance and approval of appropriate Synergy products to 3rd party certification requirements (Organic/Halal/Kosher/Fair Trade)
• Completion of other appropriate tasks, as necessary, to support the Synergy Business

How You Will Contribute

• Ensure products, packaging, labels and supporting documentation meet UK, EU and relevant export market requirements.
• Prepare and maintain accurate product specifications, Safety Data Sheets and technical documentation.
• Provide timely and accurate technical information to customers using Synergy and customer-specific systems and templates.
• Support customer requests through online platforms such as Qadex and Hamilton Grant.
• Review and validate regulatory information, including ingredients, allergens, nutrition and product composition.
• Support product compliance with third-party certification requirements, including Organic, Halal, Kosher and Fair Trade.
• Review and approve new raw materials to ensure regulatory and technical compliance.
• Work directly with suppliers to obtain required technical and regulatory information.
• Maintain accurate, up-to-date regulatory and specification data and ensure information is easily accessible.
• Support the Regulatory Manager with new product development and product launches.
• Help ensure regulatory requirements are met across Synergy UK and Ireland sites.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes, systems and ways of working within the Regulatory team.

Essential

• Degree in Food Science, Science or a related subject.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work with internal and external stakeholders.
• Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage large amounts of information within tight deadlines.
• A proactive and creative approach to identifying opportunities for improvement.

Desirable

• Experience in a Specifications Technologist or similar technical role within the food ingredients industry.
• Experience within the flavour industry.
• Experience using internal or external specification systems and databases.
• Knowledge or experience of food regulatory and compliance requirements.
