Applications are invited for specialist registrar (locum appointment for service-LAS) in General Medicine with specialty interest in Diabetes & Endocrine at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (Denmark Hill site).

This post would be suitable for any trainee who has completed core medical training or can demonstrate equivalent competencies. The post offers excellent experience for doctors planning a career in acute medicine or general medicine.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will become an integral part of the team managing a post-acute general medical ward at King’s. He/she will receive training in Acute and General Medicine, with access to opportunities in diabetes and/or endocrinology outpatient clinics if desired.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Managing ward inpatients and attending board rounds, ward rounds, and multidisciplinary meetings.
  2. Supervising ward juniors and supporting seriously ill patients and emergencies.
  3. Coordinating discharge planning.
  4. Participating in audit and governance activities of the ward.
  5. Delivering teaching and training to junior colleagues, including PACES candidates and year 5 medical students.
  6. Participating in the medical registrar on-call rota with blocks of weekday and weekend on-call supporting the acute medical take and ward coverage.

The post holder will participate in the medical registrar on-call rota and will be responsible for managing inpatients, attending board rounds, and supervising ward juniors. The post holder will also participate in audit activities and deliver teaching to junior colleagues.

Person specification
Essential/Desirable
  • Full registration (or eligible for full registration) with the General Medical Council
  • Minimum of 2 years’ full time (or equivalent less than full-time) hospital service in the ST1-2 grade or higher or equivalent
  • MRCP Part 1 (or equivalent)
  • Prior experience in diabetes and endocrinology
  • Experience of Audit/ quality improvement
  • Research & Publications

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
