Job description

This is a 12-month fixed-term post, with the possibility of extension depending on performance and service needs. It offers an excellent opportunity to gain psychiatric skills within the NHS and promote patient-centred care aligned with our Trust values. The post requires working 3 days per week, from 9am to 5pm. The Trust provides protected time for CPD and professional activities, along with opportunities for quality improvement work. A weekly academic programme is held on Wednesday afternoons in a hybrid format. The salary will be based on experience.

Main duties of the job

This fixed-term post has become available due to service gaps. An induction will be provided to explain roles, responsibilities, and the workplace. A Trust induction will follow after starting. The successful applicant will perform clinical assessments of individuals with mental health conditions, including mental state examinations, history taking, physical health examinations, and attending multidisciplinary team meetings. The role offers experience across the full spectrum of psychiatric morbidity in a multidisciplinary setting, working closely with SAS doctors, nurses, healthcare assistants, psychologists, social workers, and graduate mental health workers. The care approach is recovery-focused, emphasizing individuals' strengths and future goals.

Job responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Join and document ward meetings, morning meetings, and ward reviews.
  2. Perform clinical assessments of patients admitted with mental health issues.
  3. Develop knowledge of mental health and formulate care plans.
  4. Conduct physical health checks and liaise with general practitioners and hospitals.
  5. Improve psychiatric interviewing and risk assessment skills.
  6. Provide flexible, accessible care tailored to patient needs.
  7. Work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  8. Adhere to Trust values, policies, and procedures.
  9. Participate in quality improvement initiatives, including audits and service development.

This role is based at Wellbeing Clinic, St. Ann Hospital, London. It includes 5 DCC and 1 SPA activity. Clinical supervision will be provided by senior medical staff, with opportunities to attend local Trust teaching and quality improvement projects. The position offers valuable experience working with patients with diverse mental health problems, including assessment and treatment planning.

This position is subject to a DBS check in accordance with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975.

The salary range is £59,175 to £95,400 per annum, plus London Weighting of £2,162 per annum (pro-rata).
