An established industry player is seeking a Specialty Doctor to join their Trauma and Orthopaedic team at a leading hospital. We are seeking a Specialty Doctor with a keen interest in developing their skills within the Trauma and Orthopaedic team based at Royal Lancaster Infirmary. In return, we will provide expert supervision and opportunity for additional training as appropriately required. The post holder will undertake 10 PAs + 2 PAs. On-calls will be at Royal Lancaster Infirmary, a level-two trauma centre, on a 1 in 10 non-resident basis. You will be required to travel between sites to our Westmorland General Hospital (currently undergoing a multimillion-pound redevelopment where further plans to grow this into our Elective Hub are evidently underway).
You will work as part of our team delivering high quality Orthopaedic care.
Main duties of the job
You will take a role in quite possibly one of the most beautiful regions of England, often accompanied on your journey around the bay area by a stunning landscape. Holiday makers are attracted here by the stunning scenery, the wealth of leisure activities, and the multitude of good places to eat and drink.
Our Team consists of 14 Orthopaedic Consultants, 1 Associate Specialist, 7 middle-grade Specialty Doctors, 3 SPRs (ST3), 1 International Fellow, 2 CTs, two foundation year 2 doctors, 2 Advanced Nurse Practitioners, and 2 trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioners.
You will be required to work on a 1:10 non-resident on-call rota, work alongside a dedicated Consultant in clinics and theatres on at least 2 of our sites including trauma. You will rotate throughout the department developing skills in all areas of Trauma and Orthopaedics. You will have many opportunities to take on extended department roles of interest while participating in audit and multidisciplinary forums where you will strengthen organisational and leadership skills.
Our strong ties with Lancaster University offer great opportunities to get involved with teaching medical students and with research. You will be supported in developing an appropriate Personal Development Plan and encouraged to work toward maximising academic achievements. Some of the recent post holders have worked towards their FRCS (Tr & Orth) exams while in post and have successfully obtained CESR.
About us
We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units, and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case, and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
