Job description

Job overview

Specialty doctor in general adult psychiatry with the South Manchester Early Intervention in Psychosis Service and the North Mersey Community Mental Health Team.

This is a replacement post with the South Manchester Early Intervention Team and the North Mersey CMHT.

Main duties of the job

The service is commissioned to work with people living in Manchester and experiencing a first episode of psychosis. It works with people between 14 and 65 years of age. The current commissioned caseload is approximately 560 patients. The teams provide expert assessments and treatment for people presenting with a first episode of psychosis. Each team is led by a team leader.

The Service also has psychology input, clinical pharmacist input one day a week, and 2 sessions from a CAMHS consultant psychiatrist to support input to younger patients. Care coordinators come from a variety of backgrounds including nursing, social work and occupational therapy, and they are supported by support, time and recovery workers. There is an At Risk Mental State Service (EDIT), led by a clinical psychologist and a physical health pathway to improve care in this area.

Referrals are triaged by the CMHT and initial assessments are undertaken by the CMHT. Following this, for those patients that are accepted as requiring CMHT input, they are either allocated a Care Coordinator or, for those requiring shorter-term input, allocated a case manager on an extended assessment pathway. The CMHT is recovery-informed and focused with an aim to transition patients back to primary care. For those patients who require secondary care input but not at an enhanced CPA level, long-term stable patients on clozapine, they remain on a standard care pathway with an allocated case manager.
