Overview

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Specialty Doctor to join the Surrey Perinatal Psychiatry Service on a substantive basis.

The Surrey Perinatal Mental Health Service provides specialist, multidisciplinary community care for the assessment and treatment of women experiencing psychosis and other severe mental illnesses during pregnancy and the postnatal period, serving families across the county of Surrey. The successful post-holder will work as part of a supportive and experienced team, covering part of the South-West arm of the service, in close collaboration with the Perinatal Consultant Psychiatrist. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop specialist expertise in perinatal psychiatry and contribute meaningfully to improving outcomes for women and their families.

We are not able to offer sponsorship for this post, and those that apply must be registered with the GMC with a licence to practice.

Responsibilities
  • Provide high quality medical care with support from consultant perinatal psychiatrists across the Perinatal Service and maintain the high level of expertise and skill necessary for the provision of excellent quality perinatal mental health care, aiming for optimal outcomes for mother, infant and the wider family.
  • Support Perinatal Consultant Psychiatrists in providing clinical supervision to junior doctors working or training in the service, and offer clinical advice and information to all staff as required.
  • Communicate effectively with midwives, general practitioners and health professionals; strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary for the post.
  • Participate in service evaluation and planning of future service developments; ensure cover is arranged for responsibilities during leave with consultant colleagues within the service and cross-cover with other perinatal doctors.
Qualifications
  • GMC registration with a licence to practice (unsponsored post).
