Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to develop a strong SAS doctor team in Paediatrics and Neonatology. The Specialty (SAS) Doctor role will be a senior role in the department, working closely with the tier two resident doctor (middle grade)team, supporting the tier one resident doctors, and working alongside an experienced consultant team and ANNP/trainee ANNP team. There will be opportunities to deliver outpatient clinic work (initially under consultant/Specialist Supervision, but developing towards independent clinic provision in the future), with opportunities for developing subspecialist interests (eg neurology & epilepsy). There will be an expectation of regular shifts on the middle grade rota, including work on the Childrens Ward (including looking after those at HDU level), Neonatal Unit and Postnatal Ward/Delivery Suite, Paediatric Assessment Unit, and include reviewing some children in Emergency Department.
You will play a vital role in delivering high-quality care to children and young people and their families across inpatient, outpatient, neonatal and emergency settings.
There will also be opportunities to be involved in GP triage and advice & guidance services. There will be an expectation of regular shifts on the middle grade rota, including work on the Childrens Ward (including looking after those at HDU level), Neonatal Unit and Postnatal Ward/Delivery Suite, Paediatric Assessment Unit, and include reviewing some children in Emergency Department.
The role will include Safeguarding work. The post-holder will be committed to teaching and training, and will deliver teaching to medical students, resident doctors and trainee nurse practitioners.
They will also be a supportive role model for colleagues in the department. They will participate in the departmental teaching programmeand support trainee doctors to access educational opportunities.
They will also provide clinical support for colleagues across the multi-disciplinary team. They will work with senior colleagues to ensure that the requirements of clinical governance are met, undertake audit and quality improvement work, and take part in research as appropriate. They will be involved at a departmental level in identifying unmet needs and contributing towards service development.
It is a busy Paediatric department with wide experience obtained in both general and Neonatal Paediatrics.
The Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides acute hospital services (at the Great Western Hospital) and maternity services across Wiltshire. At the Great Western Hospital we have all of the facilities you would expect to find in a busy general hospital including an Emergency Department with separate Paediatric area, Childrens Unit with Paediatric Assessment Unit, Local Neonatal Unit, Delivery Suite next to the Neonatal Unit, a full range of diagnostics tests such as X-ray, MRI and CT scans, outpatient clinics and 21 inpatient wards.

To provide expert care in General Paediatrics and Neonatology working closely with the wider multi-disciplinary teams, attend outpatient clinics, and participate inacute admissions.
