Job description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK, employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

The shift pattern for this post is Monday to Friday 0900 to 1700. This is a permanent position working 40 hours per week.

All applicants must possess full GMC registration, a licence to practice, with at least 4 Years full time Post Graduate Training, two of which must have been in relevant specialties (psychiatry) or you will demonstrate and evidence equivalent experience and competencies.

Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced candidate for a full-time (10 sessions) Speciality Doctor in Old Age Psychiatry post, supporting Older Adult Community Mental Health Teams across Cairnmhor Resource Centre and Clydebank Health Centre.

  • The role includes 9 clinical sessions and one session for supporting professional development, with no on-call commitment.
  • Duties include outpatient clinics, domiciliary visits (including care home assessments), and sessional input to Vale of Leven Hospital Psychiatry inpatient wards and liaison service.
  • The post provides a rich breadth of experience in older adult community and inpatient psychiatry, working alongside well-established multidisciplinary teams including consultants, specialty doctors, CPNs, liaison nurses, occupational therapists, and clinical psychologists.
  • The team benefits from strong links with West Glasgow services for cover and collegiate support, as well as regular clinical supervision and CPD opportunities, including teaching, training, and CESR support.
  • Mental health services for older people are consultant-led, community-focused, and supported by access to assessment and HBCC beds across a range of Greater Glasgow and Clyde hospital sites.
  • Commitment to collaboration, audit, quality improvement, and participation in regular local and regional teaching is essential.
Requirements
  • Full registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council (GMC)
  • At least four years’ full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a less than full-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme or specialty registrar locum appointment for training (LAT)
  • Equivalent training, experience or competencies, either in the UK or overseas
