Job overview

This is a full-time appointment for a Specialty Doctor to work across our general-adult (adults of working age - AOWA) inpatient wards. Successful candidates will work with a multidisciplinary team including consultant psychiatrists, psychiatry/foundation/GP doctors in training, advanced nurse practitioners, nurses, occupational therapists, psychologists, and support workers.

Main duties of the job

Job responsibilities:

  • Attend ward rounds, conduct reviews, and create management plans for patients. Chair ward rounds and make decisions about patient care in the absence of the consultant, seeking advice from the covering consultant when appropriate.
  • Complete, review, and authorize discharge summaries.
  • Perform MHA work, including tribunal reports and presenting evidence at hearings.
  • Assess and manage physical health for inpatients.

Leadership roles:

  • Lead clinical decision-making in the multidisciplinary team to ensure high-quality care.
  • Develop service clinical priorities aligned with national and professional standards.
  • Participate in clinical governance activities such as audits and quality improvement projects.

Educational roles:

  • Supervise and support doctors in training.
  • Provide teaching to medical students and doctors in training.
