Job description

Job summary: This post would be ideally suited for a doctor, who has a minimum of 2 years experience in clinical psychiatry practice, and is interested working in a specialty doctor position in psychiatry outside of a Training position.

A successful candidate would have the option of continuing ongoing work in a specialty doctor position, or considering the option of applying for Specialty Training in Psychiatry in the future.

An alternative career path would be progression as a specialty doctor and with the possibility of gaining a Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) via Article 14 route once required experience can be evidenced in the future.

The post-holder will work under the supervision of a consultant psychiatrist and will be integral to a multidisciplinary team, accessing local CPD activities as appropriate.

Main duties of the job

Duties of the post: 10 PAs. The specialty doctor will work closely with the consultant psychiatrist and Multi Disciplinary team, and will provide clinical support for the assessment and management of mental health problems on a routine and emergency basis. On average 10 Programmed Activities per week will be devoted to Direct Clinical Care. Care of patients in the community in Luton CMHT area, in the Functional Model.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Medical graduation
  • Fully registered with the General Medical Council

Desirable:

  • Higher degree
  • Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent qualification (in accordance with Royal College of Psychiatrists guidelines)
  • Approval under Section 12(2) of Mental Health Act 1983, or plan to gain approval within 6 months of appointment.
Knowledge and Experience

Essential:

  • At least 2 years experience of psychiatry clinical practice post medical qualification
  • Appreciation and social and cultural factors of relevant to psychiatric practice
  • Experience of and commitment to clinical care of individuals with severe and enduring mental health conditions

Desirable:

  • Experience of clinical work in Acute Adult Psychiatry
  • Experience of Quality Improvement projects & Clinical Audit
  • Good working knowledge and experience of the application of the Mental Health Act
