A leading NHS Trust in England is seeking a committed Specialty Doctor in Stroke Medicine to deliver exceptional care within a distinguished team. This role offers a supportive environment, opportunities for educational engagement, and competitive remuneration, set in a picturesque suburb near London.
I have been assigned by an NHS Trust in the UK to help them recruit a Specialty Doctor in Stroke Medicine on either a Substantive or NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months.
Our client provides acute and complex services, as well as outpatient and diagnostic services at their sites in West Sussex and Surrey. In 2019, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) rated their services as 'Outstanding'. They are one of the best performing Trusts in England, with accolades such as winning the Health Service Journal Acute Trust of the Year 2021 and the National Patient Safety Award. They are committed to safety and are in the top 20% nationally for staff recommending the Trust as a place to work or receive treatment. Staff engagement scores are the highest among comparable acute trusts, reflecting a motivated workforce.
The successful appointee will be enthusiastic and committed to delivering excellent Stroke care, based at the main site, working with 3 Consultants in Stroke Medicine within a team comprising 4 ST3+ equivalents, 5 ST1/2 equivalents, 1 FY1, and 1 Physician Associate.
The Stroke Service currently has 36 beds for patients in the first 7 days of acute stroke care, including 6 HASU beds in development. The unit accepts referrals directly from the Emergency Department and other sources. Thrombolysis is available 24/7, with out-of-hours support via the Regional Surrey Stroke Network. There is a robust Thrombectomy pathway with St George's Hospital, London. Imaging includes 24/7 CT angiography and CT brain scans as part of stroke work-up and thrombectomy pathways.
Most patients have acute ischemic strokes or intracerebral hemorrhages. There will be some patients with TIAs and stroke mimics. The department offers extensive radiological and clinical experience, including procedures like LP. There are 7-day TIA clinics run by Stroke Physicians, with weekend clinics supported by Doctors from Acute Medicine on the Kingsfold day unit. Opportunities to attend stroke clinics twice a week are available. Senior support is always accessible from Stroke Consultants during working hours and via telemedicine after hours. Specialty doctors are actively involved in educational activities, audits, and research. Monthly Stroke Governance and Mortality & Morbidity meetings are also part of the department's activities.
The Trust is located in a beautiful suburb on the outskirts of London, with proximity to major international airports and reputable schools. Benefits include excellent remuneration packages, 10 P.A. per week, and a supportive team environment. Candidates must have GMC registration. Housing costs are reasonable, and the cost of living is manageable.
