Job summary

Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking a Senior Clinical Fellow to join the Stroke team on a 1-year fixed term maternity cover basis. You will work within a busy Neuroscience Centre, gaining experience in acute and inpatient stroke management alongside a multidisciplinary team.

The role offers opportunities for governance, audit, research, and supervision of junior doctors, with strong support for ongoing training and career progression.

Qualifications

• Full GMC registration and license to practice.
• Minimum 3 years working as Junior Doctor in a hospital setting, including 2 years in medical specialties.
• Neurology or stroke experience.
• UK experience is desirable.
• MRCP is desirable.
• Experience supervising junior colleagues is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical care to patients within the Stroke service, including assessment of acute stroke referrals from the Emergency Department and other hospital areas, under consultant supervision.
• Contribute to the assessment and management of patients who may require thrombolysis or thrombectomy, supervise inpatient HASU and Stroke ward care, and support safe patient flow.
• Participate in Stroke on-call rota, provide advice and supervision to junior doctors, and contribute to outpatient stroke services as required.
• Engage in clinical governance, audit, research, teaching and quality improvement activities, and maintain continuing professional development.

Job description

You will join a busy, dynamic multidisciplinary service within a major Neuroscience Centre, gaining valuable experience in the assessment and management of patients with acute and inpatient stroke. The role offers excellent opportunities to develop your clinical skills, contribute to clinical governance, audit and research, and support the education and development of junior doctors. You will work alongside experienced stroke consultants and a dedicated multidisciplinary team, with support for your ongoing training and career progression. Main duties of the job

You will provide high-quality, patient-centred care within a busy Stroke service, working closely with consultants and the multidisciplinary team. You will assess and prioritise patients, contribute to timely diagnosis and management, and support safe patient flow across the Stroke service. The role requires excellent clinical judgement, communication and organisational skills, with the ability to work effectively under pressure and recognise when senior support is required. You will contribute to clinical governance, audit, research and quality improvement, while supporting the teaching, supervision and development of junior doctors.
