Job summary

Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board is inviting applications for a Specialty Doctor in Paediatrics (Fixed Term). The post provides middle-grade cover for general paediatrics, PAU at RGH, and outpatient clinics under supervision. A 1:8 rolling rota with existing specialty doctors is offered.

Fixed term up to 1 year with flexibility across sites. Welsh and/or English speakers are welcome. Applicants should have 4 years' postgraduate training (two in Paediatrics) and possess GMC registration

Qualifications

• Full GMC registration is required.
• oMRCPCH or equivalent is required.
• oMRPCH part 1 a & b completed.
• Minimum 4 years or equivalent postgraduate training, two of which must be in Paediatrics.
• Experience of multi-agency working.

Responsibilities

• Conduct daily ward rounds in the Children's Ward, RGH, and report to the consultant in charge.
• Supervise junior medical team and advise nursing staff.
• See patients in A&E on paediatrics' requests.
• Carry out safeguarding medical examinations when trained.
• Attend specialist clinics as per area of interest.
• See new and follow-up General Paediatric patients under supervision.
• Engage in clinical/medical audit, teaching and research within paediatrics.
• Manage acute paediatric intake at PCH with junior and consultant support.

Specialty Doctor in Paediatrics (Fixed Term)

This post is a replacement of existing post but with diverse roles and developmental opportunities to suit applicant's interests. This post provides middle grade cover to the general paediatric, PAU at RGH and to the out patient clinics under supervision of the consultants; and complements the existing middle grade posts in the department. The post holder will participate in 1:8 prospective rolling rota sharing with existing specialty doctors.

This post is fixed term up to 1 year due to changes within the department.

The post holder will be based at RGH but may be expected to work across different sites within the Health Board depending upon needs.

Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

• Conducting daily ward rounds in the Children's Ward, RGH and report to the consultant in charge . Participate in PAU cover
• Supervision to Junior medical team and acts as a source of advice and support to the nursing staff.
• See Patients in A+E at the request of paediatrics junior doctors and consultants.
• To carry out safeguarding medical examinations when adequately trained.
• Attend specialist clinics as per area of interest.
• See new and follow up General Paediatric patients in the clinics under supervision of consultant.
• Participate in clinical/medical audit, teaching and research within the children's service.
• Managing the acute paediatric intake at PCH with junior and consultant support.

Person Specification

Qualifications

• Full GMC registration
• oMRPCH part 1 a & b
• oMRCPCH or equivalent

Experience

• oNLS
• oMinimum 4 years or equivalent postgraduate training two of which must be in Paediatrics
• oExperience of multi-agency working

Ability

• Able to keep good medical notes.
• Good written and oral communication skills
• Understanding of child safeguarding
• Demonstrate ability to lead a multi-disciplinary team
• Level 1- 3 child protection training
