Job description

We are looking to appoint a new Specialty Doctor in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. You will join a team working closely alongside our Consultants and otherSpecialty Doctors.The post comprises 10 programmed activities (PAs), which could be modified for a candidate preferring towork 10 PAs or less than full time.

Main duties of the job

• Day to day running of the labour ward, obstetric wards andgynaecology wards.
• Regular gynaecology theatre sessions with the teamconsultant
• Running of the ante-natal and gynaecological clinics toparticipate in the department's teaching, audit, andeducational activities
• Daily ward rounds, inpatient and outpatient management ofpatients, operating lists and on call.

Person Specification

Qualifications/ Training

Essential

• Shall have full registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council.
• MRCOG part 1 or qualification of an equivalent level
• MRCOG part 2

Experience

Essential

• Shall have completed at least four years' full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty or Shall have equivalent experience and competencies.
• Demonstrate an interest in, commitment to and have broad experience in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
• Ability to offer and be accountable for full and independent expert diagnostic opinion
• Can evidence leading on patient safety issues and achieving a change in practice

Desirable

• Understanding of core research principles, methodology and ethics
• Demonstrate an understanding of the basic principles of audit, evidencebased practice and clinical quality improvement initiatives

Skills

Essential

• Able to evidence engagement with clinical governance and the identification of errors and the learning from errors.
• Evidence engagement with appraisal and revalidation
• Able to show situational awareness and application of good decision making
• Ability to effectively teach clinical skills
