Job Description

The main purpose of this post is to assist Consultant Histopathologists and Clinical Scientists in providing comprehensive histopathology services and morphologic molecular testing.

The post holder will handle specimens, dissect specimens for histological processing, and use the alternative/CESR pathway to attain specialist registration with the GMC.

They will be assigned a desk with a microscope and internet/hospital IT-linked computer (with LIMS installed) in a shared office space, with access to the hospital library, postgraduate centre, and R&D unit.

The role offers exposure to general pathology and specialized cardiothoracic pathology, with opportunities to experience molecular pathology/genomic testing and digital pathology. The post holder will contribute to clinical audit, quality improvement, and participate in research projects within the Trust's R&D unit.

Main Duties
  • Work closely with Consultant Pathologists to assist in disease diagnosis.
  • Examine tissue samples, including specialized cardiothoracic pathology.
  • Engage in molecular testing, produce microscopic descriptions, and draft reports.
  • Adhere to departmental SOPs, safety, quality, and infection control standards.
  • Support pathological tasks under supervision, correlating findings with clinical history and imaging.
