Job description

Emergency Medicine in East Kent Hospitals is at an exciting period of redevelopment, having attracted national investment to rebuild both Emergency Departments at William Harvey Hospital, Ashford, and Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital, Margate.

Our Emergency Departments provide innovative and fast-paced integrated emergency care to a wide range of patients from East Kent. It is our inspiration to develop into an academic and research unit in emergency medicine for Kent.

The Emergency Departments, one at William Harvey Hospital (WHH), Ashford, and the other at Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital (QEQMH), Margate, each offer a full 24-hour emergency service. They are supported by co-located Urgent Treatment Centres, including a 24-hour UTC at Kent and Canterbury Hospital and seven community UTCs in the region.

The role involves providing high-quality care to patients, including clinical leadership and supervision of junior medical staff, ensuring the highest standards of clinical care. You will be proactive in ensuring rapid assessment, treatment, and clinical decision-making, whilst adhering to Emergency Access Standards to deliver safe, high-quality care.

Patient safety, dignity, and care are our highest priorities. As an ED consultant, you will provide visible clinical leadership, working with the nurse in charge and the specialty doctor lead to ensure effective communication and patient flow.

You will also support the clinical governance agenda, lead continuous learning and improvement, and liaise with clinicians and managers to address service issues.

Critical Care in East Kent Hospitals is undergoing redevelopment with a new 24-bed Intensive Care Unit at William Harvey Hospital, including bespoke training facilities and dedicated in-situ simulation space, reflecting the expansion in critical care services.
