Job overview

Applications are invited for the post of a Locum Specialty Doctor Breast Clinician on a 12 month fixed term contract. The post requires the appointed candidate to be able to work independently in the breast radiology symptomatic clinics and family history risk assessment clinics. Applications are invited from doctors with the relevant training and skills, such as completion of the Credential in Breast Disease Management. Applications from trainees in their final three months of training will be considered.

The successful candidate will be based at North Manchester General Hospital and Royal Oldham Hospital and will be employed by Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT).

This post is not designed for established radiologists or surgeons.

Main duties of the job

The appointed candidate will be primarily responsible for the provision of patient care in new patient breast symptomatic clinics and family history clinics.

This role does not include NHSBSP screen reading or assessment clinic responsibilities.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Typical responsibilities of the appointed candidate will include:

1. 4 sessions of new patient symptomatic clinics

2. Intervention (ultrasound guided intervention)

3. 2 sessions of family history clinics

4. Multidisciplinary team meeting

5. 1 session of Supporting Professional Activity (SPA).

This role does not include NHSBSP screen reading or assessment clinic responsibilities.

Person specification
Essential and Desirable criteria
  • • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • • Credential in Breast Disease (trainees in their final three months of training are invited to apply)
  • • Be eligible for full registration with, and hold a current license to practice from, the GMC at intended start date.
  • • Able to practice independently in the symptomatic breast clinics and Family History clinics
  • • Experience and interest in undergraduate and post graduate teaching
  • • Evidence of participation in a communications skills training course
  • • Evidence of involvement in an audit project, a quality improvement project or formal research project
  • • Evidence of participation in a teaching course or qualification
  • • Evidence of management commensurate with experience
