Job description

Specialty Doctor in Adolescent Mental Health Team

This is a community-based post, located within the Adolescent Mental Health Team (AMHT) and the Emotional and Behavioural Team (EBT), offering assessments and treatments for a wide variety of clinical presentations. The post holder will contribute to a positive working environment within the multi-disciplinary team.

The AMHT is a small, cohesive, community-based multi-disciplinary team within Newham CAMHS, providing Early Intervention Services for 13 to 18-year-olds, as well as assessment and treatment for young people with severe and enduring mental health difficulties, including high-risk self-harm presentations. The team comprises Child & Adolescent Psychiatry (one full-time consultant, this post, and higher trainees), Systemic Family Therapy, Clinical Psychology, Child & Adolescent Psychotherapy, Mental Health Nursing, and Occupational Therapy. The team model emphasizes joint working between Psychiatry and care coordinators to deliver developmentally informed, evidence-based treatments. There is high support within the team and regular supervision with the Consultant Psychiatrist.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will provide generic CAMHS assessments and interventions as part of the AMHT. They will participate in a daytime emergency rota handling crisis presentations and self-harm cases at Newham University Hospital, as well as urgent psychiatric reviews supervised by the on-call consultant.

The role requires a high degree of professional autonomy and self-management, with accountability through regular appraisal and audit.
