A community health organization in London is seeking a Specialty Doctor in the Adolescent Mental Health Team. The role involves providing assessments and interventions for young people with mental health challenges. Candidates should have appropriate medical qualifications and experience in child and adolescent mental health. This is a community-based post, located within the Adolescent Mental Health Team (AMHT) and the Emotional and Behavioural Team (EBT), offering assessments and treatments for a wide variety of clinical presentations. The post holder will contribute to a positive working environment within the multi-disciplinary team.
The AMHT is a small, cohesive, community-based multi-disciplinary team within Newham CAMHS, providing Early Intervention Services for 13 to 18-year-olds, as well as assessment and treatment for young people with severe and enduring mental health difficulties, including high-risk self-harm presentations. The team comprises Child & Adolescent Psychiatry (one full-time consultant, this post, and higher trainees), Systemic Family Therapy, Clinical Psychology, Child & Adolescent Psychotherapy, Mental Health Nursing, and Occupational Therapy. The team model emphasizes joint working between Psychiatry and care coordinators to deliver developmentally informed, evidence-based treatments. There is high support within the team and regular supervision with the Consultant Psychiatrist.
The post-holder will provide generic CAMHS assessments and interventions as part of the AMHT. They will participate in a daytime emergency rota handling crisis presentations and self-harm cases at Newham University Hospital, as well as urgent psychiatric reviews supervised by the on-call consultant.
The role requires a high degree of professional autonomy and self-management, with accountability through regular appraisal and audit.
