We are seeking passionate individuals with relevant experience (see person specification in JD) to join our dedicated ED team as a Specialty Doctor.
The position is based at the Emergency Department of the Princess Royal University Hospital, a Trauma Unit and Hyper-acute Stroke Centre (BR6 8ND).
The role is available from August 2025.
Successful candidates will join a dynamic, multi-professional ED treating a wide spectrum of patients. This is a great opportunity to broaden your experience in a friendly and supportive environment.
The ED Consultant team provides clinical supervision and care delivery 16 hours per day, seven days a week, with varied special interests including trauma, frailty, disaster medicine, education, public health, global health, and pre-hospital care.
Regular SPA time is built into the rota for Audit, QIP, and personal development.
Candidates interested in pursuing a CESR will be fully supported, including access to secondments in Anaesthesia, Intensive Care, Acute Medicine, and Paediatrics. We have a strong track record of supporting doctors into formal EM training at ST3 or ST4 levels.
Successful candidates will be paid on the Specialty Doctor pay scale (MC75).

Our ED offers a comprehensive training program including lectures, simulation, and clinics, with a focus on Royal College of Emergency Medicine exams. Regular non-clinical academic time is allocated (1 PA per week). Study leave for educational activities is available, including life-support courses and exam preparation. Funding supports various educational activities and e-learning.
We promote clinical audit and continuous improvement.
The post holder is expected to stay current with emergency medicine developments, fulfill RCEM CPD requirements, and participate in appraisals and mentoring. Support is available for postgraduate exams and CESR pursuit, including secondments in key specialties like Anaesthesia, Critical Care, and Paediatrics.
Facilities include reception, ambulatory area, majors, resuscitation bays, paediatric area, decision unit, and advanced imaging services. There are dedicated teaching and administrative spaces, relatives room, and multidisciplinary training programs.
Active undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, interdisciplinary training, and resuscitation courses are integral to our department. The team includes numerous consultants with specific roles, and our staff establishment comprises consultants, specialists, trainees, and support staff.
