Job description
Overview

Are you passionate about delivering high quality and compassionate patient care and are looking to work in a friendly and high performing team in a modern Emergency Department as a Specialty Doctor? If so, Airedale NHS Foundation Trust is the perfect place for you to work.

At Airedale, we have a great reputation for training and development and are very proud of our excellent reputation amongst trainees — we have consistently received the highest combined ratings from West Yorkshire EM trainees in the GMC survey in recent years.

We are looking for both established specialty doctors looking for a new challenge or for post-ACCS EM trainees who feel a move to becoming a specialty doctor can provide a better work-life balance with the possibility for more stability. In fact, a number of our current specialty doctors are local trainees who did just that. We also have experience of successfully supporting colleagues through FRCEM and CESR.

Please see our separate Information Brochure that will tell you more about our team, who we are looking for, and what we have to offer you.

The post is based in the Emergency Department at Airedale General Hospital.

The Role

The post holder/s will be responsible to the ED consultants and will be expected to:

  • Be involved in the initial reception and management of patients attending the Department.
  • Be involved in the teaching of junior doctors, medical students and nursing staff.
  • Undertake some administrative responsibilities, e.g. daily auditing of x-ray and pathology results.
  • Assist the consultants in the running of the shop floor, ensuring patients are seen by appropriate staff in a timely fashion, that junior staff are appropriately supervised and receive adequate rest/meal breaks.
  • The post-holder undertakes exceptionally to perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances essential to the continuity of patient care.
Team, Training and Development

Our department prides itself on being friendly and supportive and has an excellent reputation amongst trainees (we received the highest average ratings from West Yorkshire EM trainees in the GMC survey 2021). We also have experience of successfully supporting colleagues through CESR with one having successfully become a consultant and others working towards CESR currently.

Location and Benefits

Our award winning hospital is positioned at the gateway to the beautiful Yorkshire Dales affording the opportunity to live and work in a stunning part of the country with good schools and easy access to Leeds in less than an hour and London in approximately 3 hours.
