Specialty Doctor - Anaesthetics

The closing date is 03 July 2025

It is envisaged that the post holder will carry out their duties as a full time specialty doctor in anaesthesia.

The posts are initially contracted for 10 programmed activities per week.

The demands of the Anaesthetic department mean that close and ongoing collaboration with SAS grade colleagues is required. A degree of mutual two-way flexibility in sessional provision is anticipated. This job involves cross site working between our two principal hospitals at York & Scarborough, with Scarborough Hospital as the base site

Individual job plans will be discussed and finalised with the clinical director on appointment and will become operational on commencement. All jobs plans are agreed in line with the Trusts Job Planning Principles.

Main duties of the job

At Scarborough Hospitalsurgical services are supported by an 8 bedded Intensive Care Unit which has funding for up to 6 level 3 patients at any one time. The main theatre suite comprises five theatres, in addition to which there is a separate maternity theatre.

Surgical services at Scarborough currently include; general surgery (including emergencies), trauma, gynaecology, ENT, maxillo-facial, oral surgery, ophthalmology and urology. We now also have a successful and expanding day unit to support this work.

Job responsibilities

The principle duty of this post is to provide a comprehensive clinical service to patients from and around York & Scarborough.

1. To, at all times, comply with the GMC requirements of Duties of a Doctor.

2. To ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained at all times.

3. To undertake duties as defined within the attached job plan in so far as practicable and in agreement with your Clinical Director.

4. To be responsible and managerially accountable for the reasonable and effective use of any Trust resources that you use and influence, and professionally accountable to the Medical Director.

5. On commencement to ensure personal attendance at the Trusts Corporate Induction.

6. To participate in the Trusts statutory and mandatory training programme.

7. To be responsible for the clinical management of in and out patients under your care.

8. To facilitate research and ensure that all IP rights of the Trust are observed where applicable

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Holder of a medical qualification registered with the GMC
  • Current holder of license to practise with the General Medical Council & substantive NHS experience
  • Completion of minimum 4-years' full-time postgraduate training, or equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis, or other equivalent demonstrable experience and competencies
  • Completion of a minimum of 4 years' in a full-time specialty training programme in anaesthesia (including ICM & obstetrics, or equivalent gained on a part-time basis, or other equivalent demonstrable experience and competencies
