Job summary

Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking a Specialty Doctor in Burns & Plastics Surgery with emphasis on skin cancer management and general plastic surgery. The post supports one of the consultant teams and a Plastics Surgical First Assistant across multiple sites.

The role includes day-to-day patient management, involvement in skin cancer planning and attendance at clinics and operating lists, with active teaching of junior doctors and engagement in departmental audits

Job description

To assist Consultants and Specialist Doctors with patient management. The successful candidate will assist with the day to day running of the service and to supervise, help and instruct the junior doctors as part of the team. Duties will include at outpatient clinics and operating lists, attendance on other departmental activities e.g., Audit M&M meetings.

Qualifications Essential

• Applicants must hold full registration with the GMC at the time of application
• MBBS or equivalent medical qualifications
• Microsurgery course
• FRCS (plastics) or equivalent
• ATLS, Minimum 4 years post graduate experience with at least 2 years in Burns & Plastic Surgery
• Experience of teaching & supervising Junior Medical Staff
• Experience or ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems within the plastic surgery specialty
• Have an understanding of the role of the Specialist skin MDT and ability to present patients with appropriate management plans
• Experience in the technique the of Dermoscopy
• An understanding of the latest guidelines for the management of skin cancers, and the role of SLNB in the management of melanoma and Merkel Cell carcinoma
• Understanding of the basic principles of audit and research
• Understanding of the basic principles of audit and research
