Job description

This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate aspiring to a career in Renal Medicine. The successful applicant will work with the renal team for a period of 6 months.

Main duties of the job

The Trust operates a ward-based system, and you will be working as part of a team of doctors and consultants to look after renal and general medical inpatients on the ward (Victoria Ward), and patients referred to the renal team by specialties on other wards. The Berkshire Kidney Unit provides renal services, including acute haemodialysis and plasma exchange for Berkshire. The successful applicant would also have the opportunity to attend clinics, including specialty clinics such as transplant and vasculitis.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Full GMC Registration
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • MRCP (UK) or equivalent by time of appointment
Experience
  • Evidence of experience in a range of acute medical specialties, with experience of managing patients on unselected medical take during core medical training or equivalent
  • Experience of managing patients with CKD
Knowledge & Skills
  • Appropriate knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgment to problems
  • Awareness of the basics of managing patients with CKD
  • Evidence of competence in management of medical emergencies and in-patients through continuous work-based assessments, portfolio evidence, including logbook documentation if applicable
  • Evidence of competence to work without direct supervision where appropriate
  • Competent to lead the acute medical take in an NHS hospital
  • Demonstrate current ALS certification or equivalent
  • Demonstrates ability in managing common acute emergencies
  • Evidence of some level 2 competencies in acute medicine and nephrology
  • Evidence of skills in the management of acute medical emergencies
