Job description

The Specialty Doctor is responsible for supporting the Consultants in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The job involves liaising with nursing, professional and technical, social work, managerial, and administrative staff.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be expected to:

1. Manage the labour ward and gynae emergencies with support from the obstetrics and gynaecology consultants.
2. Work with professional colleagues and managers to ensure the efficient running of services.
3. Collaborate closely with other specialist teams.
4. Assist with service improvements and develop business plans to inform future strategic directions.
5. Participate in clinical meetings and postgraduate activities within the Trust.
6. Share the role of educational or clinical supervisor to junior doctors in training, including induction, supportive formal appraisals, supervision of learning portfolios, and career advice.
7. Provide bedside and teaching support for Junior Doctors and other multidisciplinary team members.
8. Participate in a Friday afternoon formal teaching rota based on RCOG curriculum, new guidelines, and research.
9. Assist in annual PROMPT course training.
10. Undertake personal development and mandatory training.
