A fantastic opportunity has arisen due to the expansion of the General Surgery Department at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust. The department is being expanded as part of a £1.8M investment in the clinical workforce across General Surgery and its sub-specialities. Included in this review of emergency and elective services, Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is able to increase the Specialty Doctor workforce.

The post holder will join as a Specialty Doctor within the Department of General Surgery. This post will consist of 10 Programmed Activities per week and include participation in a 1 in 16 predictable on-call rota.

Key Responsibilities

1. Care of in-patients: Responsible for the day-to-day care of admitted patients, with support from junior doctors.
2. Out-patient clinics: Assist consultants in running outpatient clinics, including emergency clinics, and run independent clinics as needed.
3. Theatre sessions: Assist in surgeries and procedures, and run independent lists as required.
4. Teaching: Participate in teaching juniors, medical students, and allied professionals.
5. Administrative duties: Perform administrative tasks related to patient care, supervision, and other assigned roles.
6. Flexibility in working: Maintain flexibility to adapt to departmental needs.
7. Cover for colleagues: Provide cover for colleagues' annual and study leave.

Position Details

This is a maternity cover contract for a Specialty Doctor in General Surgery. The successful candidate will support activities such as outpatient clinics, elective main theatre and CEPOD lists, MDT meetings, virtual clinics, and routine ward rounds.

As part of the team, you will work closely with clinical, medical, and managerial colleagues to provide high-quality healthcare, support teaching, and adhere to Trust procedures and policies, conducting all work within the parameters of the Trust's service plans.
