Job description

Specialist Teaching and Learning Assistant

Join to apply for the Specialist Teaching and Learning Assistant role at Derbyshire County Council.

Closing date: 01 June 2025

Location: Brackenfield School, South Derbyshire

Brackenfield School is an area special school providing education for young people with complex needs, including communication and comprehension difficulties. We are seeking multiple Specialist Teaching and Learning Assistants (STLA) for 37 hours a week, starting September 2025.

The successful candidates will join an experienced team supporting pupils aged 3 to 19 with profound and multiple severe learning needs. Pupils are grouped by cognitive, social, communication, and sensory needs rather than age. Candidates should have knowledge of specialist education and early childhood development, good verbal communication skills, and the ability to annotate pupils' work.

Applicants should demonstrate high standards, adaptability, teamwork, growth mindset, and the ability to promote pupil independence. Please see the full job specification and description for responsibilities.
